Rafa Pérez °1957 in Haro , Spain . He studied Economic Sciences in Bilbao but he gave up his studies and decided to go to Barcelona and dedicate himself to art. There he focused on painting and he studied in the Escuela Massana. At the end of the 70's he started to work with clay and since then he has used clay as the central focus of his work, although he has always combined it with other materials, like cement and stainless steel. Pérez' work with clay has taken two forms over the years. Apart from painting with clay, he has created some strong sculptural works. His sculptures are admired due to their technical complexity and risky shapes.

Pérez has won numerous awards for ceramic artists, the most important one for him being the Premio de Manises prize in 1993, which he won again in 2002. In 1998 he received an honorary mention at the Mino Competition, Japan , which led to international renown for him. He has exhibited throughout Europe and in Taiwan and Japan .
