Johanna Hitzler was born in 1970 in Germany and was
trained as a ceramist at the academy of art and design in
Halle, as well as in different companies in Germany and Switzerland.
Since 2004 she is working as a freelance designer. Her work
has already received considerable international recognition.
She won the Westerwald Prize in 2004 and the Silver Award
at the Mino Competition in Japan. Hitzler only works with
porcelain. Her working field is the vessel in its widest sense.
For any project Hitzler's starting point is a basic idea.
This is a kind of frame that she varies in. Then she will
concentrate on a specific area, and study its potential. Hitzler
thus gets involved in an exciting process, enjoying the surprises.
She develops a wealth of shapes, which is exacting, but also
offers new possibilities. From the emerged objects she will
decide which ones will be produced in a small series and which
ones will be revised for industrial fabrication.
