Jeanette Hiiri was born in 1971 in Sweden and now lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. She describes her ceramic universe as follows:
"My ceramic work revolves around structure - surfaces. I wanted to let the structure build the form, small elements put together to create a natural growth, with only me as a guide to lead the way. I have worked with stoneware and porcelain and used thick layers of glaze on some pieces to enhance the surface. The structure gives the glaze its own place and space. Some works have been left raw, in order to create a contrast to the glazed ones, but also to make the material itself more visible. The unglazed pieces cannot hide anything. Every move I have made in the process of making them is there - my thoughts as well as my fingerprints. My work is an attempt to express the beauty and possibilities of the material - clay."
